Korean automaker Hyundai’s European branch was hit by a major virus attack called Ransomware at the beginning of 2024. When rumors about the incident first surfaced in January, the company’s senior management dismissed it as a minor IT issue.
Hyundai couldn’t conceal the virus attack
However, recent revelations suggest that the situation is far from minor and may involve significant data theft. Following this, Hyundai Europe had to admit the scandal, confessing that a third-party virus software managed to infiltrate a small portion of their databases.
The company stated that they are conducting intensive investigations with cybersecurity experts and are confident of obtaining positive results in a short time. However, Hyundai’s management did not provide information about who carried out the virus attack, the extent of the data stolen, or the type of data stolen.
However, according to recent allegations, the virus attack was carried out by a hacker group called Black Basta, who allegedly stole approximately 3 terabytes of data. It is speculated that this data may include critical information such as the company’s human resources, legal processes, marketing strategies, and financial status.
